8F 48305 is has the road from the siding at Quarn whilst the gaurd makes final checks on the wagons bearings

The 8F now noisily moves the Windcutters onto the main amid wind and close drizel

48305 was built by Crew in 1941 for heavy war train service on the LMS. She was restored at Loughborough from a Barry wreck in 1995 and has extra boiler work compleated more recently back at Crew

The Super D roars across a desolate field full of sheep

20 years more senior than the 8F Super D 49395 brings back daily memories of the LNWR

The first passing of the day of 8305 and the super D north of Quarn

Reminicent of nearly 40 years of doing this unglamious work a Super D crosses the British landscape

The 8F now trundels across the bridge to the farm near Quarn in typical British winter weather

In this chalenging weather I have been undecided which photographs work beter in Black and white or colour, some work equally as well

meeting the 8F again, the following day this small stream was flooding the feld with all the rain run off

48305 roars past a signal upsetting the sheep, with the sanders on gripping in, like she had done during over twenty years of unglamourus freight service

The 8F crosses the bridge as the sheep finaly decide to run for it...

... it was a good job too as a Super D was comming the other way!

Believe it or not it's nearly lunch time as the Super D makes a run for Quarn. This is in colour purly to show the dire weather.

There's a train a comming

This mixed frieght will not be stopping as she has a clear road south

Just before the 0-8-0 arrives the 8F errupts under the road onto the scean heading north

8F and super D passing on mainline frieght service. Normality for many years

The 8F once again has a clear road as she is watched from the trackside

At lunch time the 8F has been serviced and waites in the loop to to collect her next train

The Super D has a single ejector and this is its only control. It is linked across the cab top to a steam brake valve
